What is Moonstone, Anyway? September 22 2015
Hillberg & Berk's Head Designer, Lisa, Loves Moonstone. Here's Why:
I am always inspired by interesting minerals and stones, this season I couldn't resist the prismatic, powerful allure of moonstone.
What I Love About Moonstone Jewellery
Moonstone is said to hold the power of mystery and locked inside is our own hidden truths. Moonstone is a talisman of the inward journey, taking one deep into the self to retrieve what is missing, the parts of the soul left behind or forgotten, then brought to light.
With strong ties to the moon, Moonstone has also been said to influence our behaviour, emotions and spiritual growth.
How I Incorporated Moonstone in our Hand-Crafted Jewellery
For the Autumn-Winter collection, I knew moonstone was going to be a central material. One of the pieces that I think best demonstrates the stunning, mysterious quality of moonstone is the Amelia Necklace. The particular type of moonstone used in this necklace is of the prismatic variety known as Rainbow Moonstone. The beautiful rainbow colours exhibit a soft, watery opaqueness and a silvery-white reflection that, when paired with a champagne and rose gold palate, create a truly special, dynamic piece.
"I love designing with rainbow moonstone because of the versatility it holds. The sheen and depth of the stone add a luxurious look and feel that transcends the seasons"
