The 4 C's: Clarity June 13 2014
Every diamond is unique and inimitable, just like a love story, and what distinguishes diamonds are often the small imperfections that mark their surface (blemishes) or hide at their core (inclusions). These are the result of the mineral process that allows for the creation of diamonds, and stones that have no inclusions or blemishes are extremely rare, and thus extremely valuable.
Our third C thus stands for Clarity, the unit that measures the presence of inclusions and blemishes. Diamonds are assigned a clarity grade that can range from flawless (FL) to obviously included (I3). Most diamonds fall within the VS (very slightly included) or SI (slightly included) categories. Make sure you ask your jeweler what is the Clarity grade of the diamonds you are looking at, Clarity plays a huge part in determining the value of a diamond.
